The Pro-Core Trainer is a training aid designed from a numnah based system with two bands that are secured behind the hindquarters and around the abdomen. The bands stimulate receptors in the hair and skin to recruit the underlying musculature of the core stabilisers. The abdomen band is used to help encourage flexion and better posture through the back. The hindquarter band is used to aid hindquarter muscle development and encourage equal stepping of the hindquarters. Working together both bands help to encourage engagement of the core and hindquarter muscles.
The Pro-core Trainer from Thermatex has been developed in conjunction with equine healthcare professionals and experienced horse trainers. The system of the bands will aim to encourage
- Core strength
- Engagement of the hind quarters
- Improved posterior pelvic rotation
- Equal stepping of the hind limb
- Overall performance
Improving core stability in time will help specific trunk muscles of the back and abdomen to maintain balance and posture in movement. Strong core muscles can reduce unnecessary pressure on the spine and may help to cope with the weight of the rider and tack with the aim of reducing back pain.
This training aid can be used when lunged or when the horse is in ridden work. Always ensure that your horse is comfortable wearing the Pro-core Trainer on the lunge before using it for ridden work. It is recommended that a normal exercise session is reduced by half when starting to use the bands to avoid muscle fatigue.
How to fit:
Fit the Pro-core Trainer saddlecloth instead of your usual saddlecloth, make sure all bands are removed. Once the horse has warmed up attach the abdominal band with care to one side of the saddlecloth, pass under the abdomen and attached to the opposite side. It is recommended to begin with approx. 75% length of band. For example, if your horse’s abdomen from side to side was 1 metre, the length of band should be 75cm. It is not recommended to have the band any shorter than 50%. Be careful not to overtighten the bands for your horse. Repeat the same procedure with the hind quarter band making sure you pass the band under the horse’s tail. It is recommended to begin with 75% length.
Size Full can accommodate many types of horses that generally wear cob, full or xfull saddlecloths. The bands are adjustable, allowing this training aid to fit a variety of shapes and sizes.
Please note: Use with caution and as necessary under guidance of a equestrian healthcare professional. The Pro-core Trainer should not be used on horses with known lameness, neck/back pathology or neurological disorder. If your horse reacts adversely to the use of the pro core trainer discontinue and seek advice from your veterinary professional.
